Sharing our stories: How journalists and other media can support people to share their experiences of suicide
These guidelines and the accompanying video are designed to support journalists and others in media and communications roles to safely and respectfully work with people who have a lived and living experience of suicide when sharing their stories.
The aim of these resources is to increase the confidence and skills of media and communications professionals, increase trust in media for those sharing their experiences, and to improve media reporting about suicide.
A suite of guidelines, videos and other supporting resources co-created by and for people with a lived and living experience of suicide are also now available here. It may be helpful to share these resources with the people you are interviewing or working with.
The guidance document below is designed to be used in conjunction with the Mindframe guidelines for reporting on suicide and mental ill health, and the Mindframe quick reference guide: How news personnel can prioritise self-care when covering traumatic news.
